NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY CANBERRA
ENLIGHTEN CANBERRA

A site specific work that embodies light and the façade of the National Portrait Gallery Canberra to deconstruct the way we see the portrait collection and the relationship between architecture and film. The format of the work disrupts the horizontal view of the gallery by superimposing animated vertical filmstrips down the façade of the building. The work uses archival film, saturated colour, hand painting and collage to illuminate the diverse body of the collection like a light box. The work references Australia’s shared heritage, and the range of cultural practices represented in the portrait collection including drawing, printmaking, sculpture, painting, photography, video and film.
