MUSEUM OF AUSTRALIAN DEMOCRACY OLD PARLIAMENT HOUSE CANBERRA

PIGI Slide film

A site specific artwork that references the letter written by Pastor Doug Nicholls Secretary of the Australian Aborigines League that was delivered to the site on July 1 1949.
Nicholls letter to Prime Minister Ben Chifley and party leaders Robert Menzies (Liberal) and Arthur Fadden (Australian Country Party) was seeking representation of Aboriginal people in the federal parliament.
The red yellow and black paint gestures reference the shapes of the mountain ranges behind the building and the colours of the Indigenous Australian flag on the heritage building.
The artwork was approved by the Aboriginal Tent Embassy.
